More Details Have Been Released About Netflix’s "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" Reboot

We’ve known for months that a reboot of 90s favourite ‘Sabrina the Teenage Witch’ was in the works, but more details have recently been revealed.

Back in September, it was revealed that television network The CW and Warner Bros were developing a new one hour drama based around the character, for the 2018-19 season, as a Riverdale spin-off.

The original 90s ‘Sabrina the Teenage Witch’ TV show was based on an Archie Comics series of the same name, and the new show will be based on the more recent – and much darker – Archie Comics series, ‘Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.’

Earlier this month, it was announced that Netflix had won the rights to the show, ordering two seasons, comprising 10 episodes each.

The show’s head writer and director, Riverale creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, posted the first piece of concept art on his Instagram yesterday (December 22), describing it as: “fantastic and chilling.”

That Hashtag Show now report that production will begin in Vancouver, Canada, in February 2018, and have published leaked character breakdowns which reveal that there will be a new member of the Spellman family.

The character breakdown reveals that main character Sabrina is: ‘female, open ethnicity, legal 18 or 18+ to play 16’, hinting that producers haven’t found anyone to play her yet.

She is described as: ‘an empowered young woman, half-human, half-witch, struggling to reconcile her dual natures…She is fiercely loyal to her family and friends; wickedly funny; and in the middle of a star-crossed romance with her classmate Harvey Kinkle.’

Sabrina’s aunts, Hilda and Zelda, will of course be involved, with their breakdowns revealing them to be similar to how they were in the original. Hilda is described as ‘the kinder of the two’, while Zelda’s ‘sternness & tough facade might be hiding a more…mothering soul.’
